Simple Overnight Oats
When it comes to making breakfast and smoothies in the morning, I hear this a lot:
Well, for all of you without the time in the morning, BEHOLD: OVERNIGHT OATS! There is something completely satisfying about a bowl of oatmeal, and honestly, I have to say my digestive system approves (TMI?). Anyways, it's a simple way to get a nutrient packed breakfast without the morning hassle!
SIMPLE OVERNIGHT OATS
½ c rolled oats
1 T chia seeds
1 T vanilla extract
1 T agave or a few drops of Stevia
⅛ t sea salt
pinch of cinnamon
1 cup almond milk or water
chopped fruit of your choice, optional
Mix all the ingredients together (except for the fruit) the night before and place in an airtight container in the refrigerator. When ready to eat, add fruit (optional), stir contents together and enjoy!
As the oats and chia seeds soak overnight, they absorb the majority of the liquid, soften and expand. The chia seeds help create a porridge texture, and they're full of omega-3s and protein. So it definitely doesn't hurt to add them! There are so many variations to this recipe, so be prepared to see more overnight oats recipes in the future...
